Buckfast Queens

The Buckfast bee is known for its extreme gentleness and excellent productivity. The queen has strong egg-laying with vigorous brood development in spring, which compacts efficiently at the end of nectar flow.

It is a high-performance bee in both honey and pollen collection. Although adaptable to various climates, it shows a clear preference for cold climates, making the most of available sunlight.

It demonstrates highly efficient hygienic behavior.

The queen is large and has variable coloring, usually with dark stripes on the abdomen.

The workers display diverse coloration, generally darker tones.

Key management points:

  • In winter, the cluster reduces due to large reserves stored in the brood chamber.

  • There may be sharp brood breaks, depending on bloom availability.
